According to Jewish Insider, Democrat Rep. Pete Aguilar from California defended Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib for calling the event celebrating Israel’s independence day as a “catastrophe” on Wednesday.
Aguilar, a Jewish Insider reporter, called McCarthy’s decision “unfortunate.” McCarthy, a Republican from California, initially stopped the event that was scheduled to take place at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
Aguilar stated during a recent press conference that “people should be allowed the freedom to gather, have discussions, and express their views and ideas.” “That’s what we do.” They can sometimes revoke an organization or group. We’ll work closely with the individuals in the caucus so that they are heard.
According to reports, the event will now take place in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing room, which is presided over by Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
Tlaib was called out several times for antisemitic remarks. He has also accused the government of war crime and called Israel an Apartheid State in 2021.
Aguilar said that he didn’t know about the sponsors of the event, and that he does not necessarily “agree” with what every member of my caucus or every sponsored group or organisation that comes here has to say,” according Jewish Insider. Aguilar said that McCarthy, as Speaker of the House has the power to cancel events. The decision could be made based on the guests and groups.
Aguilar McCarthy and Tlaib didn’t immediately respond to a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comments.
