Rand Paul, Republican Senator from Kentucky has done something unexpected. He’s disputing the Capitol Hill physician’s report on Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that blames his recent freezing episodes on dehydration. Paul isn’t just blowing smoke here. He’s an ophthalmologist who practiced medicine for nearly thirty years. So when he speaks about the diagnosis, there’s reason to listen.
Paul has practiced ophthalmologist for more than 25 years, told the media it did not appear to be dehydration. However, this does not mean that he’s incapacitated or incapable of serving.
Dr. Brian Monahan, a Capitol Hill physician, cleared McConnell last week to return to work. I’ve spoken to Leader McConnell and his neurology staff. After evaluating the event of yesterday, I told Leader McConnell that he had been cleared medically to continue with his schedule.
This is hardly the first time we’ve seen politicians receiving questionable diagnoses. Earlier this year, White House Physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor laughably declared Biden “a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”
John Fetterman’s primary care physician at Pittsburgh’s UPMC, Dr. Clifford Chen sent a letter to Fetterman after he broke his promise last year not to release medical records. Chen stated that Fetterman was able to speak “intelligently,” without any cognitive deficiencies and that Fetterman’s speech was “normal.” He continued to display symptoms of auditory-processing disorder, which can be interpreted as hearing problems ).
Chen is a Democrat contributor who failed to mention Fetterman’s depression struggles. Doctors are no longer objective.
Rand Paul is outspoken. Rand Paul is challenging the diagnosis of a senior senator from his state, who is also a member of his party. This is what really gets me. Republicans will admit McConnell’s mistake more often than Democrats.
Joe Biden is considered an ableist if you bring up John Fetterman’s cognitive disability. No one has challenged his candidacy.
