Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy, a critic of Democrats, scolded Democrats, and in particular Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer at a hearing on Tuesday for threatening Supreme Court justices in 2022.
The Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a hearing on Tuesday to review the ethics rules of the Supreme Court, after Democrats accused Justice Clarence Thomas accepting trips from wealthy friends.
Kennedy then turned his attention to Democrats, claiming that Democrats were trying to undermine the Court by holding the hearing.
“I still remember what the Democratic leaders said on March 4, 2020 at the United States Supreme Court. It was like yesterday. He said, ‘I’m going to tell Gorsuch’, not Justice Gorsuch but Gorsuch. ‘I’m going to tell Gorsuch and Kavanaugh that you’ve unleashed a whirlwind, and you’ll pay for it. You will not know what you have done if you continue to make these terrible decisions. Wow. Matthew 12:36, “for by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned” is true. ‘”
He continued, “The sad truth is that some of my Democratic co-workers, but not all of them, have been on crusade for years to undermine the legitimacy of the United States Supreme Court and the credibility the federal judiciary.”
Schumer made his comments after the justices heard June Medical Services V. Russo. In this case, an abortion provider challenged Louisiana’s 2014 state law that required abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a nearby facility. Schumer slammed the justices. Later, a spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Schumer’s remarks were in reference to what Republicans would have to pay if Gorsuch and Kavanaugh had been appointed.
