After rumors circulated that she had a relationship with a former Oklahoma teacher’s assistant, the aide was taken into custody.
Ashley Waffle (22 years old) began work as a temporary teacher’s assistant in the Granite Public Schools district in Oklahoma on October 10. This small community of approximately 2,000 people is just two hours southwest of Oklahoma City. Reports state that she began communicating with a 16-year-old victim on Snapchat two weeks after starting her job.
Soon after, their correspondence and relationship allegedly became sexual. School officials alerted the police about a “rumored relationship sexual” between Waffle, and the student on November 9. Rumors circulated that Waffle invited the teenager to her apartment twice for a sexual encounter. Ms. Waffle was dismissed by the district the following day.
Waffle was charged last week with two counts each of second-degree sexual assault. Although her initial court appearance was set for November 17, it is not clear if she will make an appearance on that day. Insider Edition reported that she had not entered a plea. She is currently in Greer County jail, where she is being held on a $100,000 bond. A second court appearance is scheduled for December 13. If convicted, she could spend up to 15 years in prison.
Missy Berry, GPS superintendent and principal at the high school in the area, issued a statement on Saturday regarding Waffle.
“Ashley Waffle worked briefly as a Temporary Teacher’s Aide in the Granite Public Schools.” “Ms. Waffle began her employment on October 10, 2022, and she was terminated on November 10, 2022.” “Ms. Waffle has resigned from the Granite Public Schools district.”
