Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), instructed Chris Magnus, Commissioner for Customs and Border Protection(CBP), to resign or face firing by President Joe Biden. Magnus stated this to the Los Angeles Times.
Republican lawmakers have long scrutinized Magnus. They demanded his resignation after a series of complaints from his colleagues, including the fact that Magnus fell asleep during meetings. According to the LA Times, he said Friday that he is refusing to resign from his position.
Magnus stated, “I am happy about the progress that I made and look forward to continuing that work.”
Magnus has seen a record-breaking increase in illegal migration to the southern border. CBP encountered approximately 2.3 million migrants in fiscal year 2022.
According to Politico, Chris Magnus, the U.S. CBP commissioner, has been literally sleeping while on the job. It is unacceptable that someone in such a crucial position would skip meetings due to his sleep schedule. America’s top border official prioritizes sleep over national security. Since he was appointed, Magnus has been snoring at the ever-increasing border crossings. “We’ve seen record-breaking crossings month after month under his supervision,” Republican Georgia Rep. Jody Haice said to the Daily Caller.
