The text messages and testimony of witnesses released on Thursday by the House Ways and Means Committee contradicts President Joe Biden’s claims that he did not know about his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings with foreign entities.
Hunter Biden was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Justice for many years before he pleaded guilty to federal gun and tax crimes. The IRS whistleblowers who testified to the House Committee claimed that the DOJ intentionally delayed the investigation of Hunter Biden. They also provided the committee text messages and eyewitness accounts that Joe Biden was aware of Hunter Biden’s business activities.
“I’m sitting here with my dad and we want to know why the promise made hasn’t been kept. According to the testimony, Hunter Biden wrote Henry Zhao a WhatsApp message in 2017 saying that he wanted to resolve the issue now before things got out of control. “Now means tonight”, he said.
Rob Walker, a Hunter Biden associate, testified to the FBI in another section of his testimony that Joe Biden had attended a CEFC business meeting to impress Chinese executives and facilitate alleged the deal. Walker told the FBI Hunter Biden tried to arrange such meetings while Joe Biden was Vice President.
Jason Smith, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, wrote in a press release that “whistleblowers” had been “retaliated”.
Biden previously stated that he didn’t speak with Hunter about Hunter’s foreign business contacts. He said this in 2019, after the first reports of them began to be scrutinized. This denial was reiterated in 2022, after he became president, according to the New York Post.
Commentators from the legal and political worlds have called out Biden for his contradiction and demanded an explanation. Jonathan Turley is a professor at George Washington University and he wrote on Twitter: “The brilliance of the trick [is] that the Bidens managed to get the media involved in the illusion.”
Is anyone going ask President Biden this question? Tom Bevan of RealClearPolitics, co-founder and former president of the Republican National Committee tweeted: “It is clear that his claim of never having discussed Hunter’s dealings with him contradicts itself.”
Hunter Biden has been under intense scrutiny by multiple federal agencies. The House Oversight Committee has its own investigation of Hunter Biden’s business activities and Joe Biden’s involvement in them, apart from the U.S. attorney for Delaware and Ways and Means Committee.
The White House didn’t immediately respond to a comment request from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
