Students Sheltering after Reports of Gunfire at Perry High School


Dallas County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a shooting at Perry High School, Perry, Iowa. Perry High School, located about 25 miles northeast of Des Moines in the Perry Community Schools District, is a part of that district.

Officials from the Sheriff’s Department have confirmed an active investigation, but have not provided any additional details about the investigation or incident. As of yet, no casualties have been reported.

The following statement has been released by school officials:

DMACC is aware that an active violence incident occurred this morning at Perry High School. DMACC Perry Center closed today and all classes were canceled. All DMACC staff are reported to be safe and accounted for. As soon as we receive more information, we will update you. Keep an eye on campus email and DMACC’s website for any updates.

Students returning from winter break are starting the spring semester today.
