Newsom Boasts About Increased CA Retail Theft Arrests—Critics Slam Him for Sparking Crime Wave

California Governor Gavin Newsom brags on social media about recent arrests for suspected retail theft. But he faces backlash from his Golden State Democrats colleagues who created the atmosphere of lawlessness that exists in California.

The governor was gushing about how great he is:

It is fair to say that the number of arrests has increased significantly:

The Governor Gavin Newsom reported on Tuesday that California Highway Patrol (CHP) Organized Retail Crime Taskforce has recovered 216 754 stolen items valued at $5.7 million in the last six months. Increased efforts have resulted in a 167% rise in arrests, and a 525 increase in stolen goods when compared with the same period of time from last year.

The crime rate in the state has also increased dramatically under his leadership.

The organized theft of retail goods has increased dramatically in California since the start of the decade. The headlines have been dominated by events like the Union Square robberies of 2021 in San Francisco and the flash mob robberies that took place in LA in early 2023.

In progressive states, criminals no longer fear justice. Your average Tuesday:

Newsom’s self-deprecating narrative has a few obvious flaws. “”…increased effort resulting in 167% more arrests and 525% more stolen goods recovered compared to same time period last year.” What the hell did everyone do last year? Let criminals run free? (Yes.)

Wow, there are a lot arrests. Why is the crime rate so high? Newsom and his cohorts are to blame, as is not surprising.

Frank Ma, a former Bay Area law officer and security expert who consults for the California Globe, said that bragging about cleaning all the broken china…after you have shattered the tea cups is like bragging that you cleaned up all those broken teacups:

Newsom, and the many legislators around him, believe that this huge boost in CHP funding is due to police cuts, and laws which don’t punish criminals unless they steal more than $950.

You’re right. This is only a solution to the problems that they caused. They can then say that there have been more arrests, and more goods recovered, which is again a positive thing. There is a good reason for the high numbers and why we need to focus the CHP and task force on this issue in the first instance. Do not forget this.

In his press release Newsom didn’t explain why retail thefts are so high.

You can arrest as many criminals you want, but if they don’t lead to prosecutions, convictions AND prison sentences, then the arrests are useless. Newsom actively closes prisons, making it impossible to remove criminals from the streets. Many DAs refuse to prosecute.

Is Governor Hair Gel serious about crime or is he preparing for a presidential run in the event that Joe Biden withdraws? It doesn’t appear to be his main priority.

Newsom has shown for decades that he does not care about crime, the homeless or the average Californian. He has been very vocal about abortion. I find it rather macabre.

Newsom’s term ends in ’26, which is technically Jan. 7, 2027. He is therefore transparently planning his next move. He is also trying to fix some of the mess he has created because he realizes that a national audience may not be as dumb as California voters seem to think. I hope and pray that he will never run for a national position because there’s no doubt in my mind that Gavin Newsom would be more destructive than Joe Biden.
