Mike Pence’s Media Honeymoon Runs Into a Brick Wall

It is always amazing to see the willingness of mainstream media to help someone they dislike more. Liz Cheney was a warmongering liar for many years. Her father was the political equivalent of Darth Vader. She became an anti-Trump activist and a principled, laudable member of the public.

Mike Pence has not received the same treatment. However, most of the media stopped the dogs after January 6th, when the former vice president spoke against Trump.

The truth is, however, that any Republican with “newfound respect” will be pushed aside, and the honeymoon ends. Pence’s honeymoon is over.

This is not difficult. This former vice president offers a critical perspective on one of America’s most significant events. He has been open to sharing his views on the subject in interviews with the media, in publications, and in his book.

However, Pence refuses to talk to a bipartisan House committee that would benefit from his answers. His explanation for his cowardice is simply absurd.

Mike Pence is back and worse. According to Steve Benen, MSNBC’s Steve Benen, Mike Pence is so bad that he calls himself a “coward”. It doesn’t matter that he presides over the January 6th transfer of power in conflict with Donald Trump. It doesn’t matter if he has been a vocal critic of Trump. It doesn’t matter that he has embraced the Republican Party’s supposedly acceptable establishment wing. Pence was out of line and it’s not enough to be dismissed.

Republicans don’t seem to grasp this lesson. The lesson is that no matter how well they try to be liked, the left will always hate them. Pence has been acting as a man for nearly two years with the assumption of the press leaving him alone. They won’t let him go, and now that Pence isn’t willing to speak to January 6th’s committee, he will likely be the star of new conspiracy theories.

Pence’s foolishness aside, MSNBC’s handwringing is especially stupid because the January 6th committee will no longer exist. Republicans have retaken control of the House, and the Democrats’ partisan project is likely to be ended in just a few weeks. Pence is not motivated to cooperate because he knows that his testimony will be cut by the committee members to embarrass him.

Republicans who backslap on media are setting themselves up to fail. It happens all the time and it was only a matter of time before it happened to Pence.
