Alex Murdaugh was convicted Thursday of murdering his son and wife. The jury deliberated for less than three hours.

Murdaugh was found guilty by the jury of two murder charges and one count of weapons possession. During the trial, Murdaugh was not asked a single question by the judge.

The panel reached its decision after a six-week trial and witness testimony from 76 people.

Prosecutors claimed Murdaugh (54), used an assault rifle to kill his son Paul (22) in a feed area attached to Moselle’s dog kennels. Murdaugh executed Maggie (52) on June 7, 2021.

Assistant Attorney General Creighton waters stated that the double murders were carried out by the disbarred lawyer to avoid a financial catastrophe.

Heir apparent to a once-powerful legal dynasty is now a wealthy thief who also uses drugs. He allegedly concocted a scheme on his clients and law firms out of nearly $9 million. He also denied that his wife and son were murdered.

Paul’s 2022 cellphone video is the most shocking piece against Murdaugh. The video shows Murdaugh and the victims at the crime scene just four minutes before prosecutors claim that they were shot to death around 8.50 p.m.

Murdaugh publicly admitted his first admission. He confessed to lying to investigators in three interviews about the night that kennels were shut down.

He claimed that his oxycodone addiction made him paranoid about law enforcement, but he had a close relationship with both local prosecutors and the sheriffs.

The Murdaugh family held the position of a top prosecutor for five South Carolina counties for 87 years. The reign of Alex Murdaugh III ended this reign in 2005.

The influence of the Murdaugh family was immense. Alex Murdaugh was an active prosecutor and wore a badge. His car also came with blue police lights.

Waters claimed Murdaugh was a conman who tried to deceive jurors last week.

Waters of Murdaugh said that this man was a master at lying. He would lie about the most important facts, then switch to a different lie when faced with something he didn’t know.

“He also fooled Maggie and Paul, and they both paid the price with their lives. ”

14 witnesses were called to defend Maggie, including experts who testified Maggie was not more than 5’4″ tall and that there were likely two killers.

Defense lawyers Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian have repeatedly painted Murdaugh, a loving husband/father, as incapable of committing such a terrible crime.

Griffin stated that investigators “failed miserably” during the probe.

He listed all the alleged errors made by South Carolina’s Law Enforcement Division and the state attorney general’s office. He said that they were only concerned with Murdaugh and didn’t consider any other suspects.

“On behalf of Alex, on behalf of Buster, on behalf of Maggie, and on behalf of my friend, Paul, I respectfully request that you do not compound a family tragedy with another. Thank you,” said Griffin, as his voice cracked with emotion.

Murdaugh faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced.
