In 2014, then-Vice President Joe Biden was at the forefront of American diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine's fragile democratic government as it sought to fend off Russian aggression and root out corruption. So it raised eyebrows when Biden's son Hunter was hired by a Ukrainian gas company. Judicial Watch announced Tuesday that it has filed a lawsuit against Department of Homeland Security to obtain Secret Service records in connection with the investigation into Hunter Biden’s notorious gun.

What is the background?

According to a source who has knowledge of the matter, Hallie Biden, the widow of President Joe Biden, took Hunter Biden’s handgun out of his vehicle in October 2018. She then placed it in a trash can outside a Delaware grocery.

The source stated that the gun was not found after further searches. After law enforcement was reached and Hunter Biden and Hallie Biden questioned, the source stated that no arrests were made or charges filed.

TheBlaze was informed by Delaware State Police that the case had been referred to the Delaware Department of Justice for a decision regarding prosecution. The Delaware Department of Justice didn’t immediately respond to TheBlaze’s request.

The source said that agents from both the Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives visited Hunter Biden’s shop before any report was filed.

What details are there about the Judicial Watch suit and its features?
Judicial Watch stated that its lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for Columbia following a March 25, 2021 FOIA request by the Secret Service for records or communications regarding the reported purchase, possession and disposal of Biden’s gun.

According to the conservative outfit, it is investigating whether or not the Secret Service intervened in Hunter Biden’s case.

Was there anything else that happened during the Hunter Biden gun shooting?
According to TheBlaze, Hallie Biden, who was in a relationship at the time with Hunter Biden, contacted Hunter Biden to tell him what she had done. Hunter Biden then told her to go back to get the gun. According to TheBlaze, the source said that she was unable to locate the gun after trying.

Hunter Biden told police that he had purchased the gun earlier in October and used it for target practice. He also kept it in his car instead of Hallie Biden’s so it wasn’t near her children, according to a source with knowledge.

According to TheBlaze, Hunter Biden answered law enforcement’s question about whether he had ever contacted anyone regarding this incident. He then asked Joe Biden if he meant his father and said that he never called his dad for anything and that he handled his own affairs.

According to the source, the ATF also asked for Hunter Biden’s gun purchase file from the shop owner during its visit. A copy was given. The source also stated that Secret Service agents visited the shop before any report was filed, and they wanted to locate the gun.

Since Hunter Biden was last under Secret Service protection on July 8, 2014, it was not immediately obvious why the Secret Service should have been properly involved in the investigation.

Politico confirmed TheBlaze’s March 2021 report. It noted that two people, one of whom had firsthand knowledge and the other who was briefed after the fact by Secret Service agents, said Secret Service agents requested paperwork from the store owner regarding Hunter Biden’s gun sales. The owner refused to provide it, stating that the matter was within the ATF’s control.

Politico reported that a man found the gun in the trash bin of a grocery store and returned it to authorities days later.

TheBlaze reported Monday that a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit seeking records of the ATF in connection to an investigation into Hunter Biden’s possible gun felonies.

Rudolph Contreras (a former President Barack Obama nominee) ruled last week that although the public interest in Hunter Biden’s case against the ATF was “significant”, it didn’t outweigh Biden’s “substantial” privacy interest in the matter.
