Ron DeSantis, the GOP presidential candidate, slammed Hunter Biden’s special counsel. This was in addition to Republican complaints about the Department of Justice’s handling of the case.

DeSantis said to reporters at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday that “this is going be a total scam special counsel”. He continued, “The House has been working to supposedly hold Hunter Biden accountable.” “I believe [the administration] is trying to checkmate this investigation… They’re trying to kneecap the House of Representatives’ ability to investigate.”

Republicans criticized Attorney General Merrick G. Garland for appointing U.S. attorney from Delaware David Weiss to be a special counsel in the ongoing federal probe of Hunter Biden. Weiss, who has been investigating Hunter Biden’s first son since 2018, has not really made any progress.

DeSantis claimed that Weiss was “the same guy” who did it with “kid gloves,” in reference to the sweetheart deal offered to Hunter by Weiss to avoid jail. Maryellen Noreika, a U.S. district judge, rejected the deal on July 26, 2018. Weiss’s office had negotiated the unworkable deal.

DeSantis made his remarks while attending Iowa’s State Fair, a mandatory stop for presidential candidates. The Florida Governor was among many Republicans who flocked to the fair to spread their message to Iowans.

On Saturday, Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy, as well as Ron DeSantis, were all among the GOP presidential candidates who attended Iowa’s State Fair.

Haley was spotted wearing a shirt that read, “Underestimate Me, That’ll Be Fun,” according to Associated Press. Ramaswamy, a billionaire tycoon, rapped along to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

DeSantis was in a confrontation with former president Donald Trump supporters who were holding banners that taunted the governor. Banners read “Be likable Ron!” in reference to his “lack” of personality at times.

According to the Des Moines Register, while DeSantis was flipping the pork chops, a tradition for GOP candidates, Trump supporters began chanting “We love Trump.” To which the governor’s fans replied, “USA, USA!”

Trump was greeted by thousands of fans as he entered the fair. Former President Trump addressed a full house at the fair’s Steer N Stein Restaurant, where he spoke for 10 minutes. He also introduced Reps. Matt Gaetz and Byron Donalds as well as Greg Steube who had flown with him to Iowa.

“The other candidates came here, they had like six people,” Trump bragged in the packed restaurant while reminding listeners of his large lead in polls. “We are going to take care of our country, we’re going to take care of Iowa, and you’ll be proud of our country again.”
