A 2020 Democratic Candidate for the U.S. Congress, will be sworn in on several documents including a copy of “Superman”, a comic book that is worth approximately $5.3 Million.

A journalist discovered the classic comic book among many religious books that Congressmen had chosen as a place to swear their allegiances.

The journalist asked a congressional aide if they would reveal the identity.

Robert Garcia is a Long Beach Democrat who revealed that he would be sworn into the comic book.

“Will proudly swear into Congress the U.S. Constitution. Garcia tweeted three things that are very important for me personally under the Constitution.

He also added “A photo of my parents I lost to covid” and “my citizenship certificate and an Original Superman #1 (@librarycongress). Garcia calls himself a comic book geek.

Garcia is the first openly LGBTQ immigrant to be elected to Congress. Garcia was Long Beach’s mayor from 2014 until his election for the 42nd District.

His parents died in 2020 from coronavirus complications. He and his family emigrated from Lima (Peru) to the U.S.

The first comic book was published in 1939. The book was published at ten cents per unit. It was also sold by CGC (a grading agency that grades comics), for $5.3 million in 2022.

However “Superman #1” is not the first appearance of the superhero in comics. A copy of this comic book was purchased for $ 3.18 million in 2021.

Garcia said that he would display comic book images at the congressional office.
