News that Donald Trump, the former president, will be charged in the classified documents probe has caused a frenzy of reactions from all sides. These reactions are mostly based on political party lines.

Understandably, the prevailing sentiment in Republican/conservative corners is that we’ve officially reached “banana republic” territory here, something Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo. Laura Ingraham of Fox News, who hosted a show on Thursday, addressed the issue in an interview.

“If the President in power can just jail his political opponents, which is what Joe Biden is trying to do tonight, we don’t have a republic anymore. We don’t have the rule of law, we don’t have the Constitution. Our Constitution is built on the basic rule of law and due process, and nobody should be in doubt of what’s happening tonight. Joe Biden and his cronies are trying to take out their chief political opponent. This has never happened before in American history, Laura. We are in dangerous, dangerous waters, and it is because of Joe Biden.”

Watch:

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), whose working knowledge of what constitutes an actual fact would fit in a thimble with room to spare, saw the Hawley/Ingraham video clip and decided to weigh in and prove his many critics right in the process:

Ted Cruz of Texas, a Republican Senator who did not like the insulting of people’s intelligence by Lieu pointed out that Lieu lied when he claimed that Hawley had not included the “cronies” (as Hawley referred to them) on the grand jury. Cruz continued that if current standards are followed, Biden too could be charged with the same crime given his own scandal involving classified information.

We have already detailed how the Biden White House, and federal officials, are using double standards when it comes to receipts.

Hillary Clinton wasn’t indicted for the scandal surrounding the private server she used, and Biden seemed unaffected when classified documents were found in his garage. He said that his Corvette, which was “locked”, was also in the garage. ”

Where is “there” when it comes to Trump’s charges Trump could face serious problems if the information about the transcript of the phone call and the indictment are accurate.

Hawley and Cruz have all said that this is a very dangerous path to be on. Democrats will regret it if Trump is sent to prison for the crimes he’s accused of. You can be sure that Republicans will do the same in the future.

It’s not good for America. We wouldn’t even be here today if Trump showed a little more discipline and if he hadn’t been so reckless in using all the departments available to him against his political enemies.
