Lewis Basford, detective superintendent, stated that the danger to the couple’s baby was becoming “so high” that officers had to “consider the baby is in danger.”
“We must keep the hope that the baby will be found safe and well. As the weather gets colder and the effects that the cold could have on babies, the risk increases. This may not be over,” he stated.
The Independent was told by Napier Marten, the father of the aristocrat, that he felt “immense relief” to hear his daughter had been found. However, he expressed concern about his newborn child.

Surveillance footage captured by a doorbell CCTV camera showed the activities of Constance Marten (aristocrat) and Mark Gordon just moments before they were arrested Monday night.
They were seen walking by houses shortly before being taken into custody by Brighton police. As they speed past houses, both were wearing hoods and carrying bags. Gordon is also seen with a stick in his hand.
After seeing media reports about the couple, a member of the public called 999 to report that they had taken cash from Hollingbury Place’s convenience store just before 9.30 pm.

The witness said that it was initially one police car that spotted them. When they realized who it was, the rest quickly came up.
He was initially very animated and was eventually restrained. He was screaming at them to stop.
“She was in tears when she got arrested a little further down the street.”

While searching for Mark Gordon and Constance Marten’s missing baby, police officers found a pair of pink child’s earmuffs.
