FBI Atlanta responded to Apalachee High School earlier today following reports of an active shooter. All day long, FBI personnel coordinated with local and state police and supported them. The FBI will use all resources available to bring justice to the victims and their family members.

The FBI’s National Threat Operations Center in May 2023 received anonymous tips regarding online threats of committing a school shooting, at an unknown location and time. Online threats included photographs of guns. The FBI identified the post as coming from Georgia within 24 hours and referred it to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office interviewed a male 13-year-old as well as his father. The father said he kept hunting rifles in his house, but that the subject didn’t have access to them unsupervised. The subject denied that he made the threats online. Jackson County alerted schools in the area to continue monitoring the subject.

There was no probable reason to arrest anyone or take any further law enforcement actions on the local or federal level.
