A family feud turned deadly when a California man drove roughly 11 hours to Utah to murder his estranged brother.
Jeffrey Roberts drove 730 miles to visit his brother in Ogden Utah. Roberts, 66, killed Scott Roberts in his home just minutes after he reunited with his estranged sibling.
KTLA reports that a Ring camera caught the moment Jeffrey walked to the door and rang it at 7:10 p.m., April 27. As he walked to the top of the stairs, he could be heard heavily breathing.
Jeffrey asks his brother “What’s up?”
Scott tells Jeffrey that his mother lives in Missouri.
Jeffrey asks calmly, “How long has she been there?”
Jeffrey pulls a gun from his jacket’s inside pocket and shoots at his brother. He also shoots Judi, his sister-in-law. She survived her gunshot wounds.
Jeffrey can be seen in the video going to his car to get bags and a gun. Investigators reported that Roberts had a 9mm pistol, a 12-gauge gun, 23 magazines, and 150 shells.
Jeffrey is heard on the phone saying “Empty out my bank account as quickly as you can.”
The police said Roberts lit his brother’s house on fire using road flares.
Police officers arrived at the house after receiving reports from neighbors that possible gunshots were being fired. The house was already ablaze with smoke.
Officers responding to the call said Roberts opened fire immediately upon their arrival. Police opened fire and fought the firefight. They shot Roberts and killed him.
On a bodycam video, a police officer can be heard saying to Roberts: “He’s Down.” Headshot wound.”
According to KTVX, Jodi Roberts continues to recover in the hospital.
The daughter of the Utah couple launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign.
Kelsey Turner, the daughter of Kelsey Turner, said, “For those who don’t already know, the estranged brother of my father killed my dad and set fire to the house.”
She added, “My mom is still alive because my father fought against my uncle and told her to run.” Knowing that my father died as a hero brings us some comfort.
Turner claimed that the fire started by her uncle “destroyed most” of her parent’s house.
At the time of publication, more than $40 000 had been raised to help Jodi Roberts.
KCBS-TV interviewed a neighbor from Long Beach who stated that the two brothers were totally different.
Scott was described by an anonymous woman as a person who would give his shirt to someone else.
The woman described Jeffrey’s behavior as violent, aggressive, entitled, and arrogant.
She added, “It breaks my heart to hear that Scott got killed. Honestly, Jeffrey not so much.”
