Lightning Strike Near White House Kills Wisconsin Couple

After a lightning strike that occurred last night, a couple from Wisconsin was declared dead Friday.

James Mueller, 76, and Donna Mueller, 75, of Janesville, succumbed to their injuries following the strike at Lafayette Park, a spokesperson from DC Metro Police stated.

“We are saddened at the tragic loss of lives after the lightning strike at Lafayette Park,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones.

Two others injured in the strike remain in critical condition. Their identities have not been publicly released.

DC Fire and EMS responded around 6:52 p.m. local to reports of a lightning storm in Lafayette Park.

DC Fire and EMS reported that first responders discovered two adult females and two adult males with life-threatening injuries upon arrival. All the subjects were taken to local hospitals.

DC Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Magngiolo stated that the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division and U.S. Park Police officers witnessed the strike and immediately started to aid the victims.

DC Fire and EMS earlier tweeted that DCs Bravest was on the scene and helping to transport 4 patients.
