Nicole Shanahan has grown on me. Here’s a cautionary note: we’re not all on the same page, even when it comes to some important issues like abortion. I don’t think she’ll be able to change her mind, considering how passionate she is about children’s healthcare. In my 30s, I switched from the pro-choice to pro-life camp. You can change people’s minds and hearts.
Shanahan is a sharp, shrewd woman with a strong social media presence. Her team’s ads have been very good since her running mate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that he would suspend his campaign to support former President Donald Trump.
Shanahan showed her mettle again on Tuesday when she challenged Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D) claim in a Tweet on X, that women who miscarried were unable to get adequate medical treatment due to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022 with the Dobbs ruling.
We’re in a world where doctors have to tell women in the middle of a miscarriage they can’t get the medical care they need because they’re not near enough to death, and that they need to hemorrhage in the parking lot for a few more hours.

Warren’s tweet states:

Shanahan replied by asking:
What state denies D&C surgery for miscarriage? Why do so many women have fatal miscarriages? It is an outrageous claim from a U.S. Senator, and Hillary Clinton has just called for criminal prosecutions against those who spread misinformation. Be careful, Ms. Warren.
Hillary Clinton, as Shanahan suggests, was on MSNBC just Monday night and seemed to advocate criminal charges against Americans who “engaged in propaganda.”
Warren seems to be referring to the case of Amber Nicole Thurman. Her story has been widely circulated as an example of how abortion bans kill women. Jennifer Oliver O’Connell explains more in her article about Vice President Kamala’s “conversation”, with the National Association of Black Journalists, on Tuesday afternoon.
Harris shared a story of a tragic death that occurred in Georgia recently, a state with heartbeat laws. After purchasing mifepristone from North Carolina and ingesting the drug, the woman returned to Georgia where she began experiencing complications as a result of the abortion pill. She was admitted to the hospital and scheduled to have a D&C performed to remove any fetal remains that were left but died of infection before it could be done. Harris, however, is on her reproductive rights bandwagon and conveniently claims that the Georgia abortion bans were to blame for this woman’s lack of access to “reproductive health care.”
The hospital and medical providers have not provided any details as to why Thurman’s D&C was delayed, especially given Thurman’s circumstances. This information would certainly be useful before blaming Georgia’s heartbeat law, Trump, or Republicans for Thurman’s death.
The broad brush account of what occurred doesn’t seem right, given that even states with the strictest abortion laws allow for “life of mother” exceptions. Harris, Warren, and other Democrats are still blaming their political opponents for the abortions.
Like Shanahan, I would like Warren to clarify: Which states deny miscarriage D&C surgeries? Where are the women bleeding in parking lots? What is the connection between this and restrictions on abortions? Specifically.
If Warren does not have specifics then she may want to reconsider her propaganda. I’m certain she would not want Kamala Harris – or, God forbid, Donald Trump – to follow Hillary Clinton’s lead and impose the law against her for spreading misinformation.
