Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond encourages her husband to step back from the ranch when it comes time to work.

The Food Network star, Ladd Drummond, recently wrote a post on her blog The Pioneer Blog about her feelings as she watches him continue to work in the fields at their ranch. She explained that he has had “a busy and slightly rough summer.”

She wrote: “I say it every year but I think the work, early mornings, and the relentless grind have been too much.”

Later in the post, she clarified that Ladd had not complained to her, and these were all her feelings. She wrote he would likely say, “It is what he does, and part of life.”

Ladd has been a cattle rancher for the majority of his life. He comes from a family of ranchers. He and Ree operate and own their ranch Drummond Ranch. They live in a newly constructed house on the property.

She wrote: “I said, ‘I think we can’t do this anymore’ a couple of weeks back, after seeing him limp in, covered with dust and blood, after a long day. It was partially in jest but maybe also a little not. What I thought was, “How much harder can you go, how long can you continue to do this? Are you okay?”

Ree is concerned that Ladd has overworked himself. This comes three years after Ladd was in a car crash with his nephew Caleb while they were trying to extinguish a fire on the ranch.

Ladd refused medical treatment at the scene and instructed paramedics not to help him, but rather his nephew, instead choosing to drive himself to the hospital. However, his injuries were worse than he had thought.

In a blog post from March 2021, Lee stated that “[Ladd] had broken his neck in at least two places. One of those fractures was close to being a catastrophic injury.” “Have you heard that cowboys are not very open about their injuries? Ladd had to be transferred to Tulsa for surgery to stabilize the fracture. “Thanks to some rods, other hardware, and an amazing neurosurgeon called Dr. Kalani, it’s now fixed, and that danger is gone.”

Ree then posted on Instagram a picture of her husband riding on a horse, telling fans that “Ladd and Caleb have recovered from their accident at the ranch.”

They have five children: Alex, Paige, Bryce and Todd. Jamar is 21. The couple began to foster in 2018. Ree wrote about the celebration of their daughter Paige’s engagement in Dallas. She also noted how wonderful it was to have her husband take a break from his ranch work.

“Seeing him smile and walk around, enjoying the celebrations of his second daughter and the man who’s going to marry her…well, that made me feel better about things,” she said.
