The UN Human Rights Council Should be Ashamed

Why does the United States still host the United Nations? Why does the United States still fund the United Nations?

It’s impossible to give a satisfactory answer to these two questions. For many years, the United Nations has been a corrupt organization that not only hates Israel but also supports some of the worst leaders and countries.

On Monday, the United Nations Human Rights Council observed a moment’s silence in memory of those who died “in the occupied Palestinian Territory and elsewhere” after Hamas had launched a surprise attack on Israel that killed hundreds and injured thousands.

In remarks delivered Monday to the United Nations, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated: “Let me repeat my abhorrent condemnation of Hamas’s and other terrorists’ attacks on Israeli towns and villages along the Gaza perimeter. These attacks have resulted in over 800 Israelis being killed and more than 2,500 injured.” These numbers will likely rise, as attacks continue and many are still unaccounted for. Over 100 Israelis, civilians, and soldiers, have also been reported as captured by armed groups, including women and children.

Don’t be misled. Guterres quickly changed gears and began blasting Israel for the audacity of retaliating.

He said: “I’m deeply concerned by reports that over 500 Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed in Gaza and more than 3,000 others injured.” These numbers are unfortunately increasing by the minute, as Israeli operations continue.

He added, “While acknowledging Israel’s legitimate concerns about security, I remind Israel that military actions must be conducted strictly in accordance with the international humanitarian law. Civilians must always be respected and protected. Civilian infrastructure should never be targeted.

Anti-Israel sentiments are a major problem at the UN. It is clear that the UN lacks solidarity with Israel. This raises questions about whether anyone will address this problem. Donald Trump reduced the budget of the United Nations for 2018 by $285 million in 2017 after the UN criticized the United States over its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital. We would be better off if we had an ally of Israel at the White House.

The United States must hold the United Nations responsible for its anti-Semitism and corruption. Too many nations with corrupt motives have too much influence in this international body. We must leave the United Nations if they don’t reform and take our money.
