President Joe Biden on Thursday proclaimed March 31, 2023, as “Transgender Day of Visibility,” a move that marked his third time making such a proclamation as president, since he had previously proclaimed March 31, in both 2021 and 2022, a “Transgender Day of Visibility.”
Biden’s 2023 proclamation states that “Transgender Day of Visibility” celebrates the joy and strength of transgender people. Today, we demonstrate to millions of transgender Americans that they see them and feel they are valued and respected. They have given strength to many others, but they should not be forced to be brave to be themselves.
Biden’s proclamation stated that “Transgender Americans shape the Nation’s soul — proudly serving our country, curing deadly illnesses, holding elected office and running thriving companies, fighting for justice, raising family, and many more.” “A wave of discriminatory State laws are targeting transgender youth. They terrorize families and cause harm to children who aren’t hurting anyone.”
Biden stated, “I appeal to all Americans to lift the lives of transgender persons throughout our Nation, and to work towards eliminating violence and discrimination toward all transgender and gender nonconforming people,”
In a letter earlier this month, Vice President Kamala Harris lauded transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, expressing gratitude for Mulvaney’s “dedication and courage.”
A transgender woman from Argentina was one of the honorees of the International Women of Courage Awards ceremony, hosted by Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the White House and first lady Jill Biden earlier in the month.
