Support for Gun Control Cratering As Violent Crime Soars

The gun industry has been experiencing a golden age with more than 8,000,000 people owning guns for the first time in 2020. 40% of gun ownership growth has been driven by women.

Gun owners are not buying hunting rifles, but semi-automatic handguns for personal protection. Americans are experiencing an increase in violent crime and have stopped listening to politicians about gun control. They have to think about their family and personal safety. It was reported that there is growing opposition to gun control following the Parkland school shooting, 67% of Americans supported tighter gun control.

Only 52% support tighter gun control, and only 19% support banning handguns. It was reported that the U.S. witnessed an almost 30% increase between the prior year and 2020. The FBI reported that violent crime rates rose by 5.2% and property crimes dropped 8.1% last year.

It was also found that 88% of gun owners have a gun to protect themselves from crime. “Gun culture” has been mocked by elites but is deeply ingrained into American culture. President Biden has called for new gun laws to be passed but Congress still hasn’t passed any.
