Sidney Powell is one of those facing charges for attempting to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential elections. Her former colleague has decided to put her in the hot seat.
A lawyer for former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik blamed Powell’s false statements about the election for the entire mess.
Lawyer for alleged coconspirator of Georgia 2020 election interference has stated that former Donald Trump attorney Sidney Powell was primarily at fault because she “knowingly” made false claims about results.
Tim Parlatore is a former Trump lawyer who represents the ex-New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik. He made this claim after his client, Powell, was summoned to testify in the Georgia trial of Powell and Kenneth Chesebro. The trial will begin on the 23rd October. This is the first trial in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s sprawling case of election interference.
Kerik was not charged in Willis’ probe. However, Parlatore confirmed to CNN earlier that he had been included in the 30 “unindicted conspirators” in Willis’ indictment of the former president, Powell, and 18 other people, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Kerik is accused of attending meetings where former President Donald Trump disputed the results of the election. Parlatore wrote to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office requesting that his client receive immunity in exchange for his testimonies.
Powell, according to the attorney, was the main person who promoted false claims. He said that Trump and Rudy Giuliani were prompted to distance themselves from Powell.
Powell has pleaded guilty to several charges, including conspiracy for election fraud and theft of computer equipment. The prosecution alleges that Powell illegally accessed voting data on a computer and planned to seize voting machines in order to reverse the election results.
The Fulton County Prosecutors had indicated that they may be willing to negotiate plea deals with Powell and Kenneth Chesebro. Scott Hall, a Trump associate also caught in the legal maze, has already pleaded guilty to five charges, which may affect the course of the case.
The ultimate goal of the chess plays the prosecution makes is to convict Trump who is the main target of these indictments. This could be achieved by the district attorney’s office making it easier for Trump’s co-defendants to turn against him and blame his crimes.
Powell and other former presidents may not be able to resist a plea bargain that offers little or no jail time. This could cause trouble for Powell if the testimony of others is enough to convict him. Powell could still play a pivotal role in this case, regardless of how he decides to proceed.
