Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, sparred with Pramila Jayapal of Washington during Tuesday’s hearing by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the crisis at southern border.
Chairman Jordan started his speech by rebuking Jayapal who claimed that Republicans were launching a “assault on illegal immigrants”.
She said that “Republicans spent the past few weeks spreading fear about the border” after passing the extreme, cruel, and unworkable Border Bill. Republican colleagues also “claim the borders are open.”
Jordan replied, “I believe the ranking member began her statement with the words’secure’. Really?” Since Joe Biden became president, more than five and a half million illegal aliens were encountered along the Southwest Border. Two million of these aliens had been released in American communities. More than one-and a half million known illegal “gotaways” have successfully crossed over the Southwest Border undetected. This includes criminal gangs, drug dealers, and terrorist watchlist individuals. This is not a safe border. “That is not a border closed.”
“I never said it — I never began my statement by saying that this is a safe border. Jayapal corrected the record, saying that you had stated something false.
Jayapal then received a reprimand for violating the rules of committee by interrupting Jordan in the middle of her speech.
